It feels as though a post on the transition from 2011 to 2012 is somehow obligatory. While i wouldn't want to go on and on about it like a whiny tot, i'd, however, like to give thanks to God, for 2011 has been most delightful.

The few highlights of 2011:

1. Moving into 355 Rathdowne St with Mel K.

2. Having the trio spend the Easter break with me in melbourne.

3. Saying farewell to Clyde (first friend in melbourne) as he returns back to sg.

4. Desert and Patisserie short course at William Angliss. My passion for baking was reignited through this course. 8 weeks of 9.30am classes on Sundays, 6 hours per class.

5. Girlfriend finally visits me in melb.

6. Halloween'11.

7. Knowing who your true friend is. KINDERMATES FOREVER!

8. The Tang siblings finally gets to celebrate Christmas & Chinese New Year together!

9. New year's eve

10. Lastly, falling in love with this boy. From being reacquainted with him at the start of the year to being unsure if things will work. Fast-forward to now, we're half a year into our relationship.

For the many downs in 2010, 2011 has paid it's dues with the many better days. I'm truly thankful for the series of events that has past me during the year. A great end to a great year. 2012 looks promising already.

Christmas came and went by in a flash, and all that i remember are macarons, macarons & macarons. Christmas is the only season of the year that really excites me, so i'm kind of bummed that i did not get to go out, have a cup of eggnog and take it all in. I had a good Christmas nonetheless. It was the first Christmas without expectations; one that did not require the notion of presents as a part of the season. One that was fully enjoyable because of the people who was there to indulge in gluttony & be merry. Tis' indeed the season to be jolly.

Staring at the whiteboard in front of me that says Week 9, reminding me that i wrote that last semester and it's already Week 10 of the current semester and how time flies. Also on the whiteboard are words of affection inscribed by Ry before he left.

I was sitting in Philosophy lecture today, baffled by topics such as Pataphysics and Comic Irony while battling with a throbbing headache that won't seem to go away. And no, the headache wasn't cause by the unfathomable questions that were questioned in class.

I started thinking of my grandma and miss having her give me a massage whenever I had a headache. Her warm, wrinkly hands never seized to make me feel better. I miss my grandmother. For the times that we'll randomly drive (she drives, of course) to get lunch/early dinner and just be in each other's company. For the times she talked me through my heartaches and gave me her words of wisdom, emphasizing that my education will be my asset and boys comes after. For the times that she takes an interest in whatever i'm doing (but i respond to her impatiently) and tries to be a part of it. For the times we just lie in bed at night and I turn over to hug her and we start our 2am chat till we both fall asleep.

These are the kind of things that i do not want to forget when i'm being agitated with her. Her love for me, for the family is so indestructible. No matter how much hurt we do or say to her, she remains so loving towards us.

Some of the best experiences comes when you take a step forward and plunge into unfamiliarity. Take instance, an occasion that you have to be at, but you don't really feel like going. That is a rather trivial example, but still, don't you find that you have the most fun although you have to drag yourself there? There are major decisions in our lives, plans that scares us, the uncertainty of what lies beneath that choice, and yes, you might think that it's more than you can take, but i guess if we never push ourselves to do things that challenges us in that sense, it's hard for us to grow stronger as a person. People can push you to do things, but ultimately, it is the course of your action, the step of faith that you take that will give you the most satisfaction at the end of it. You can look back and safely say that you actually did it, not because of anyone but yourself.

Today was one of the rare mornings that i actually woke up for breakfast, but the disappointing thing is that i missed it by 30 minutes. Aside from the humidity and lack of cool temperature, the Riders cafe is, in my opinion, an interesting place for breakfast. How often do you get to enjoy breakfast/brunch/lunch at a saddle club, watching horses strut in an orderly fashion while monkeys monkey around gleefully?

I was told/read about The Plain cafe, and that the owners opened this cafe based on their inspiration by the cafes from Sydney and Melbourne. Naturally, i had to be the judge for myself and i was so ecstatic when i took a sip of the coffee. It was nothing less than magnifique! Three cheers for the rising trend in quality coffee around Singapore!

This is such an easy recipe to follow and it tasted so refreshing with the blackberry infused together with the coconut. However, if i were to make this again, i think i'll replace the blackberries with blueberries instead. Nonetheless, i'm very pleased with the turnout of this tart in terms of taste and texture!

This week hasn't been stale at all. The girls and i spent quality time reliving memories and creating new ones. I met up with an old friend a couple of days back. Not really an old friend per se, more like an acquaintance from my SIM days. It's funny how we were such strangers when we had the chance to be better acquainted and are only such good friends now. It's interesting to see how things has worked out from then to now.

I haven't got much time left at home. Certain days i wish that time could come to a standstill, while on other days i hope on the possibility for time to speed by. Former or latter, i'm going to take each day with a pinch of salt.

I've heard of this cafe since i was back during the Summer break, and have finally made my way there to enjoy coffee that was supposedly comparable to those in Melbourne. The coffee did not disappoint at all, well, maybe just the iced coffee (because they added ice cubes instead of Vanilla ice cream). The pork and truffle mushroom sandwiches were delish. The place was smaller than how i pictured it to be, but it was a comfortable kind of cosy. I was there 2 days in a row. Am going to take Nessa there on Monday.

Seeing red

Wore this outfit on a day out and about while sipping coffee comparable to the ones in Melbourne. Coffee cravings satisfied. Oh the joy. I'm so in love with the colour and scallop ends of the top. Definitely a piece that I will be wearing to death this holiday.

On the way home tonight, we saw a commotion on the road and being the curious person that i am, we decided to drive past to take a peek. I knew that it was an accident but i wasn't too thrilled to see a dead person lying by the side in a body bag. It reminded me how uncertain life is, how in the snap of a finger, someone can lose their life, their everything. Then I thought about how their loved ones must be grieving while receiving the dreadful news on the other end of the line. And then i'm reminded again how blessed i am everyday to have my family, my friends, people that love me and people that i love. Things like that continually makes me mindful not to take things for granted. It's actually sad how it takes a tragic situation for us to be appreciative of what we have.

Finally handed in my major assignment yesterday. Was on the verge of a meltdown trying to complete everything the night before. I was going mental figuring out all the functions in photoshop. This entire week of doing work non-stop seriously drove me loco. So SO thankful that it's over. Compared to this assignment, the essay that is due on Monday is peanuts to me. I am thrilled at the thought of dropping off the assignment on Monday and be completely free from any work and enjoy the carefree days of this winter break. An exceptionally wise friend told me tonight, 'Action speaks louder than daydreaming'.

Randomly, I then thought to myself, if i were to be a character in a book, i would like to be portrayed as the one with character growth. Because i do feel that way about myself as of now.

Before embarking on my education journey in melbourne, i was this person who wasn't passionate about just about anything and was somewhat living too comfortably in the arms of my family wrapped around me. Fast forward 1.5 years later, here i am, looking at certain things with a different perspective and with eyes unclouded. I'm not saying this with arrogance or anything like that, but rather, with utmost sincerity, on how much i've seen myself grown. I've lived and learned, and i am still learning. I don't need people to want to be like me, but instead, when they see my take on life, it will somehow transcend and change the way they see things (in a positive way, of course). There are many things which I do not comprehend, and will probably never will, but life is full of trial and errors, shit happens, to that, we should all take it with a pinch of salt, pick ourselves up and walk on with our heads held high.

So here's to me, to you, and to whoever else, to a life of trial and errors, with mistakes not weighing us down, but pushing us to improve on ourselves. No more self-pitying or indulging in negative thoughts/feelings. To things that are so much more worth living for.

I've gone back to dyed hair just after 2.5 weeks of black hair. Well it's not actually totally dyed, just half of it. My ombre-esque hair. It was actually done out of impulse with Melissa on a less than busy weekend. I quite like the overall outcome of this, but am thinking of getting it lighter or maybe even turning the bottom pink. Should i?

It feels as though I'm being swept into a cloud of emotions. No, I'm not being emotional. I am merely reflecting on certain things in life. Particularly, my life. Maybe it's because I'm in my twenties now, and it won't be long before I hit 22. And at this age, I feel like I'm neither too old nor too young. Most people my age (i would presume) has gotten their life and path figured out while here I am, floating around as if there is a giant piece of cloud right beneath me. In that sense, I can safely say that everyone differs that way and mature differently, I guess. But I really dislike it when people ask me what do I want in life or in the future. Yes, I know you've got yours figured out, but just fuck off of mine.

Other than that, I really miss my friends back in sg. Not that I'm homesick or anything. I just miss their company. But that's besides the point of this entry.

2010 has been an exhausting, challenging and overwhelming year for me.

This year, I've been blessed with the opportunity to study in Melbourne and starting something new while learning to be independent at the same time. I've lost love, but found strength in that to make me a stronger person and opening my eyes up to bigger & better things. I've made such wonderful friends, friends who really cares and friends that I will always treasure. I am definitely looking forward to ending this year and starting 2011 with a whole new perspective on things, and I'm also cutting people who has hurt me out of my life. 2011 seems so promising already.

Well well well, my 21st went well. I actually pictured myself frantically running around trying to entertain my friends and family, but I have really great friends and a very lovely mother who made me less panicky and that allowed me to mingle around without all the stress. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I've got all I need and MORE this year. Got a djembe all the way from Melbourne, a chocolate-coloured polaroid camera (finally!), a cupcake stand (thanks Ad!!!), Marc by marc jacobs pouch, pretty mittens, the prettiest measuring cups ever (!), bags, passport holder and the best gift of all are all the blessings and wishes from all the lovely people.

21 now. Time to see and do things as an adult would, but still keep the fun in being me.

Been putting quite a bit or rather... a lot of my energy on baking. The results has been très exciting thus far. There's this sort of relief that I find in baking. I mean, retail therapy as well, but lately it's been more of baking. When I bake I'm so focused in getting it right, and there's this rush that I can't explain. Someday after I graduate, I hope to be doing something that involves pastry besides my day job which I would absolutely love as well.

That being said, things has been pretty aa-ooo-kehh lately. My 21st is up in a week! Turning 21 means that 22 is just 'round the corner! I shall age gracefully. December is going to be swell. Hell yeaaaaaaa~

Spent the afternoon lazing around the city and DFO. This is my first Starbucks in a month. People make such a big hype over it in Singapore. They make it seem as though Starbucks is like their drug and they'd die without it. That to me is just way overdone. It's like a perfectly marinated rack of lamb that has been overcooked.

The mid-semester break has officially started. You know, they call it a mid-semester break for a reason. It's supposed to allow us students to take a breather from the first half of the semester before they slog through the second half. Instead of feeling all relaxed, I find myself struggling to complete my literature assignment. It's actually not really a struggle when I did not even try to get started in the first place. I only have a day left to do it and am thoroughly screwed. Right now all I'm looking forward to is the sleepover on Monday followed by snowboarding on tuesday.

Been back for a week. It hasn't been all good but it's getting better. School has been rather kind to me thus far, in a sense that I'm not piled up in a shit load of work. Yet. The weather on the other hand has been such a pain. Everyday it's just layers after layers. I'm not interested in dressing up anymore. All I want to do is keep myself warm underneath those cashmere and wool. I don't really want to cook because I feel so uninspired to do so. My room's still in a mess plus now I have an additional clothing rack to take up more room in my tiny space.

In short, it feels like I'm starting all over again, except this time I'm starting out stronger.

I am feeling suicidal.

The last week of my self-declared holiday is supposed to filled with coffee-sipping while people-watching, relaxing and not thinking of school. But instead, not only am I feeling so guilt-ridden, I am down with a cold, have a slightly swollen eye and found out that I have an assignment due next wednesday; a day after I arrive back in melb. I need all the well wishes I can get. I have zero courage nor strength to dive into this semester.

I dreamt of something good last night. And in my dream I was wondering to myself if it was all a dream only to wake up and realise that it was really just a dream. After that, when I see couples on the streets, I only feel 2 things - envy & hatred. Hate the way they behave so loved up it makes my hair stand yet envious at the same time of the love they so openly have for each other.

{Showcasing my barbie that I've had for quite a while}

Caught up with the melb gang at Thompson Plaza (hell far I'd say) in the noon. Had a bit of an adventure with Mel discovering the circle line blah blah bla... Sent Clare off not too long ago as she left for Sydney. I can't describe how I felt. It's a feeling beyond being sad. Seeing how painful it was for her to leave and the heartache that both she & her bf felt pains me as well. It got me thinking of myself. S-s-s-shake it offffff... Had supper with Kel & Jer. Seriously, when you're with boys who are serving the national service, they can go on eternally talking about the things they do and go thru. It was exciting at first to listen to what they've been thru but it got stale after a while and I started spacing out. The thing is, they expect you to be a part of their conversation? Kel was asking me "Why are you so quiet?" and all I could answer him was "What do you expect me to say?" But it was heartwarming nevertheless to see 2 long-time friends relating to one another even after so long.

{This is my parents in their teenage years. It makes me so envious just looking at it. Love that last through time, knowing that he's the one you'll marry and the person you'll count on for the rest of your life & grow old with. A love that overcomes all circumstances. I thought I've found a love that will never break, a love filled with forgiveness and grace. I've made mistakes,taking the love that I had for granted, but I'm young and am supposed to have allowances for mistakes right? I'm sure my parents, though very much in love, made mistakes to hurt each other along the way. I guess it's through it all that we learn and grow. For some, the mistake makes the love grow stronger. For others, the love falters. Maybe now just isn't the time for us. Maybe someday when we mature more, we'll find that love that we've lost. Maybe, just maybe.}

There goes another weekend. Only 20 more days left till I head back to ol' Melbourne. Fingers crossed that I can extend my stay for another week. What can I say, I enjoy being home and pampered by everyone. I'm a queen like that. Time just breezed by. It's been a month since I'm back. Too fast in my opinion. I'm looking forward to the new sem & classes thou, but the thought of not having my family there makes me wanna pull my heart out and boil it in soup.

I found a way to help me release all the suppressed feelings. Running (cues halo, shining light and sound effect). It's rather calming with the wind in my face and the sight of the pinkish-blue sky. I start at 6pm and it takes me an hour for my normal route. What a fruitful way to spend an hour.

Van missed her flight. Now I have an afternoon to kill without her.

Ah last week was tiring but I had so much fun at the youth camp. We were stuck on the bus in traffic jams most of the time but it gave us a chance to catch up on our sleep & figuring out the fuzzy wuzzy 'jokes'.

Met the girls in the night for a couple of drinks & to catch up. There's always something new to talk about when we meet & I really enjoy their friendship and company. Like Wanying, I've known her since I was 4. And cherie, I remember carrying my bag while singing the national anthem on the first day of school and she was the one who told me that I could put my bag down. Oh Grace, I used to turn around in class and deliberately take things out of her pencil case because I'm a bully like that. They helped me get through so much & spend time with me when I'm back here in Sg. Thank you babes. :)

Right now I'm looking forward to the return of my dear ol' sis.

Just 10 days back home and I've got to say, it's been rather eventful. Will be heading to indo in a few days' time. Am hoping that this trip will refresh my spirit & soul in ways I cannot express right now. Been hanging out with the girls, Mark and the family.

I've forgotten how lovely it is to surrounded by such wonderful people. I feel like I've grown during the time I've spent in Melbourne so far. Sometimes in the midst of daydreaming I wonder if I've made the right choice to study abroad and the many 'what ifs' came to my mind. I guess I took the risk and am glad that I did.

I'm all set right now to look ahead. Do things that will make my days fulfilling. I am stronger than I think I am. Here's to better days. :D

The misuse of words.

Some people can be really absurd with the things they say. Others can be quite careless with words and hurt you in the most insensitive ways. My choice of words to a certain someone made me realise that I could have been smarter with the things I say. Choosing to say something else could have easily changed the situation and where things are at right now for me. I've probably overdone it, so for now I am just going to back off a little. Give myself room for a breather. Give him space to think. I don't really know the point of this, but I think we should all think before we speak/act. Sometimes, knowing or unknowingly, we might say things that we'd regret & when we want to take it back so badly, it will all be too late.

Words, something that is so quick to come out of our mouths in moments of anger/impatience. But the process of healing the hurt caused unto someone whom you've caused the pain on takes so much and so long. It isn't a joke with a friend that you've mocked and quickly said 'I take it back' and all's well again. My lesson in this is to never be too quick and insensitive with the things I say. To handle situations in a calm manner and never out of impulse.

How can I expect myself to pass my 40% PR test when 3/4 of the paper was based on my own assumption and understanding? Howeverrr... considering that I barely had any knowledge of the question whatsoever and managed to write something down for all the questions, I might just slide through. After tomorrow's presentation, I'll be left with that darned philosophy essay and I'm done for this semester! Am aiming to complete it by this weekend (very ambitious!) so that I might be able to head home earlier than expected. That is IF what I just said goes accordingly. I am known for procrastinating so hopefully the possibility of going home earlier will spur me on.

What more do I have to do? What else can I do? I have to constantly shift my focus back to my work. There's this perpetual sick feeling that turns my tummy upside down. I'm so tired from all that is happening. Since the time I came back in April till now I've been on this sick cycle of mind-fuck and there is not a day I feel genuinely joyful. I've lost my optimism along the way. I haven't been able to sleep on so many occasions. I'm quite worn out, really. I hope that all I've done will get thru to you.

Just 3 assignments, 2 presentations and 1 test more and I'm done here for this sem.
